The sectional queen bee isolator is of universal size and fits all types of frames. It is used in two different phases of queen isolation:

- PHASE 1 (first 16 days): complete isolation of the queen bee, preventing egg-laying
The sectional isolator is installed in a frame or directly into the comb. The queen bee is placed into the isolator through an opening in the grid, which must then be closed with the included clip. The comb/frame with the sectional isolator is then placed into an isolation cage (for one or two combs), positioned in the centre of the brood nest, and covered with a lid.
- PHASE 2 (days 16–32): limited isolation of the queen bee for restricted egg-laying
The queen bee is released from the sectional isolator into the isolation cage by removing the clip, allowing her to move onto the comb on her own. The comb with the installed sectional isolator serves as a trap comb for Varroa. Once the comb is filled with brood and capped, the trap comb (or two combs) is removed and melted down, and the queen is released back into the brood chamber.
